Fines are issued by RTA inspectors and can be paid through the RTA website and app, Customer Happiness Centres, or kiosks. Repeat offences can carry doubled penalties. Riding in Gold Class with a silver Nol card counts as sitting in a non-designated area.

The Fines People Actually Get

Most fines issued on the Dubai Metro are for a handful of everyday mistakes: eating or drinking on the train or platforms (AED 100), sitting in the women and children cabin or Gold Class without the right ticket (AED 100), and travelling without a valid Nol card or with insufficient balance (AED 200). Inspectors patrol trains and stations in plain clothes as well as uniform, and the network's cameras mean violations are often flagged even without an inspector present.

How to Pay a Metro Fine

  • RTA website or RTA Dubai app, under public transport fines.
  • Customer Happiness Centres at major stations.
  • Payment kiosks in metro stations.

If you believe a fine was issued unfairly, you can file a grievance with RTA within 30 days of the fine date.
