Airport to Dubai Mall in under 40 minutes

Landed at Terminal 3 at midnight, followed the metro signs, bought a Nol card in two minutes and was at Burj Khalifa Dubai Mall station before I expected to be. The train was clean, cold, and quiet. The fountain show was still running when I walked out. As a solo traveller I felt completely safe the whole way.

Two years commuting Business Bay to DIFC

The metro removed all the unpredictability from my mornings. I walk 12 minutes, the train comes, and I know exactly when I arrive at the office. Gold class is worth it on busy Mondays. The only issue is frequency dropping off around 7pm - plan your evening departure around that if you can.

Bus to Ibn Battuta then metro for the whole day

We take the bus from Abu Dhabi to Ibn Battuta and then use the metro for everything - Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Mall, Deira via Union. The total metro cost for the day is less than one hour of Dubai Mall parking. Saturday afternoons get crowded heading back, so we aim to leave before 3pm.

Dubai Metro vs Munich U-Bahn - honest comparison

The stations are far more dramatic than anything in Munich, and the cleanliness is exceptional. Coverage is thinner though - you will need a taxi for the last stretch to several tourist spots. For the main attractions it covers everything well. Ticketing is simpler than most European systems I have used.

First time in Dubai - metro was the right call

We were nervous about navigating a new city with two teenagers but the metro made it simple. Color-coded lines, English announcements, easy Nol card top-up at every station. We covered the airport, downtown, marina, and old Dubai in three days without a single taxi. Would recommend it as the first thing any new visitor figures out.

Three kids, one full day, zero taxi

We took our three children (ages 4, 6, 8) to the Museum of the Future and Dubai Mall entirely by metro. The women and children carriage kept things calm. The four-year-old travelled free. Travelling at 10am avoided the rush completely. Staff at Union helped us find the right platform without us even asking.

Green Line to old Dubai - the underrated route

Most tourists stick to the Red Line but the Green Line took me to Al Fahidi, the spice souk, and the gold souk with no effort. BurJuman interchange was easy to navigate. The contrast between stepping off a modern driverless train and walking into a 200-year-old souk five minutes later was genuinely unexpected.

Used the metro every day for a two-week work trip

Staying near DMCC and working in DIFC meant a daily Red Line commute each way. Consistent, punctual, and far cheaper than expensing taxis. The monthly pass paid for itself within the first three days. Only downside is the walk from Financial Centre station to some DIFC towers is longer than it looks on the map.

Mall of the Emirates for ski - metro made it easy

Took the Red Line to Mall of the Emirates station and the mall entrance is almost directly connected. No taxi, no directions needed. The metro back was packed on a Friday evening but moved quickly. Would do the same again - far easier than I expected for a city that seems built around cars.

Solo female traveller - felt safe the whole week

The women-only carriage is clearly marked and easy to board. I used the Red and Green lines daily for a week - airport to DMCC, BurJuman for old Dubai, back late on Fridays from Marina. Never felt unsafe at any point. The stations are bright and staffed even late at night.
