Dubai Metro Accessibility Guide

Is the Dubai Metro accessible for wheelchair users and People of Determination? Station features, fare discounts, and how to apply for a Blue Nol card.
The Dubai Metro network was built with accessibility in mind from the start, and it remains one of the more accessible mass-transit systems in the region for both physical access and cost. Every station is designed for step-free travel, and a discounted fare card is available for People of Determination, students, and seniors.
This guide covers what to expect at stations and on trains, and how to apply for the Blue Nol card discount if you qualify.
Station and train accessibility features
Every Dubai Metro station has elevators in addition to escalators, so wheelchair users are never limited to stairs-only access. Ticket gates include a wider accessible lane alongside the standard gates, and platforms sit level with train doors, meaning no ramp is needed to board.
Inside each train, dedicated wheelchair spaces are marked near the doors, and priority seating is available for elderly and pregnant passengers. Tactile guidance paths run along station floors to help visually impaired passengers navigate to platforms safely.
- Elevators at every station, not just escalators
- Wide accessible gates at ticket barriers
- Level boarding with no gap or ramp needed
- Dedicated wheelchair spaces inside every carriage
- Tactile guidance paths for visually impaired passengers
Getting the Blue Nol card discount
People of Determination can apply for a personalized Blue Nol card, which gives a 50% discount on all Dubai Metro, bus, and tram fares. Apply in person at any RTA Customer Happiness Centre with a valid UAE disability card issued by the Community Development Authority, or supporting medical documentation, along with your Emirates ID.
The same Blue Nol card category is also available to students (with a valid student ID) and seniors aged 60 and above (with Emirates ID as proof of age). Processing is usually completed the same day, and the discount applies automatically every time the card is tapped.
Getting help at the station
RTA staff at every station are trained to assist passengers with mobility needs, from guiding a wheelchair user to the right platform to helping with luggage during transfers. If you need assistance, approach any staff member at the customer service desk near the ticket gates.
Most stations also have accessible restrooms, and information desks are staffed with multilingual assistance for visitors who need help planning an accessible route across the network.
