Dubai Metro Extends Operating Hours During Expo Season
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced extended operating hours for the Dubai Metro during the Expo season to accommodate the increased visitor traffic expected throughout the event period.
Extended Hours Details
Starting from April 1, 2024, both the Red and Green Lines will operate with extended hours to ensure visitors can conveniently access Expo venues and return to their accommodations. The new schedule will be in effect until the conclusion of the Expo on September 30, 2024.
The updated operating hours are as follows:
- Monday to Thursday: 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM (next day)
- Friday: 8:00 AM to 2:00 AM (next day)
- Saturday: 8:00 AM to 2:00 AM (next day)
- Sunday: 8:00 AM to 1:00 AM (next day)
This represents an extension of up to two hours beyond the regular operating schedule, providing additional flexibility for Expo visitors and Dubai residents alike.
Increased Train Frequency
In addition to the extended hours, the RTA will increase train frequency during peak hours, with trains running every 3-4 minutes on the Red Line and every 5-6 minutes on the Green Line. This enhancement aims to reduce waiting times and accommodate the higher passenger volumes expected during the Expo period.
The frequency will be further adjusted during major Expo events, with additional trains deployed to manage crowd surges effectively.
Special Expo Day Pass
To complement the extended service hours, the RTA is introducing a special "Expo Day Pass" for AED 20, offering unlimited metro and bus travel for the entire day. This pass is designed to encourage public transport usage and provide a cost-effective option for visitors exploring multiple Expo pavilions and Dubai attractions in a single day.
The Expo Day Pass will be available for purchase at all metro stations, RTA customer happiness centers, and through the RTA Dubai app.
Dedicated Expo Express Buses
Complementing the metro service, dedicated Expo Express buses will operate from key metro stations to various Expo entry points. These air-conditioned buses will run at 10-minute intervals, ensuring seamless connectivity between the metro network and Expo venues.
Visitor Impact
The extended metro hours are expected to significantly enhance the visitor experience during the Expo season. International tourists and local residents will benefit from greater flexibility in planning their Expo visits, with the option to explore pavilions until late evening hours without concerns about return transportation.
