What is the Dubai Metro Blue Line?

The Dubai Metro Blue Line is the most ambitious expansion of Dubai's rail network since the original Red and Green Lines launched in 2009-2011. Spanning 30 kilometres with 14 stations, this new line will create a vital corridor from Al Maktoum International Airport through Expo City Dubai and Dubai South to the existing Red and Green Lines.

The project is a centrepiece of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the RTA's 2030 Transport Strategy. It will connect five of Dubai's designated urban growth centres and is expected to remove over 200,000 car trips daily from Dubai's roads.

Blue Line Route and Key Stations

The Blue Line runs from the far south of Dubai (Al Maktoum International Airport) northward to Dubai Marina, passing through major residential, commercial, and industrial zones. Here are the key stations along the route:

Technology and Sustainability

The Blue Line will utilise the same proven driverless automated technology as the existing Red and Green Lines. Key technical features include:

  • 5-car train configurations carrying over 1,000 passengers each
  • Peak capacity of 46,000 passengers per hour per direction
  • 3-minute train headways during rush hours
  • Solar-powered stations with water recycling and energy-efficient cooling systems
  • Full accessibility with step-free access, tactile guidance, and multilingual signage (Arabic, English)

Impact on Property Values

Historical data from the Red and Green Line launches shows property value increases of 15-25% within 500 metres of metro stations. The Blue Line is expected to have a similar impact, particularly in currently underserved areas:

  • Dubai South — Expected to attract new residents with direct airport and marina connectivity
  • Dubai Investment Park — Over 6,000 businesses will gain metro access
  • Discovery Gardens — Affordable housing area set to see significant value uplift
